NAME THE MOST

Tell your children you’re going to play a game where you have to name as many items in a category as you can.

Say: In this game, we’re going to pick a category. Then, we’ll go in a circle so everyone has a chance to answer. When it’s your turn, you’ll have five seconds to name something in the category. If you run out of time or if you repeat an answer, we pick a new category and start over.

You can choose any category you want for this game. Examples include:

• Candy bars
• Cartoon titles
• Types of cold cereal
• Fairytale princes or princesses
• Words that start with the letter B

When the game is finished, praise your child.

Say: Great job! You were able to come up with so many answers. Look at how many different answers we came up with.

Did you know our minds can do this on their own? So often, we start thinking about something that reminds us of something else — and then something else — until suddenly, we’re thinking or worrying about something completely different!

That’s totally normal, and everyone struggles with it from time to time. But we don’t have to keep those ideas in our own minds. Just like we shared our ideas today, you can always share your thoughts, worries and fears with Jesus. The next time you feel overwhelmed by your own thoughts, take them to Jesus.
